Quick answer

Choose a card grading service by the outcome you need. For a sealed slab from a major grader, the cheapest open single-card tiers on October 8, 2026 were CGC Economy at $20 (90 business days), SGC Standard at $50 (40+), PSA Standard at $59.99 (90 to 100) and Beckett Express at $79.95 (15). For a documented grade without mailing the card, DCM grades from photos in about a minute for $0.50 to $2.99 a card. DCM does not provide authentication or a sealed slab.

Most grading comparisons start with price. That is the wrong place to start, because the services do not sell the same thing. Decide what you want the grade for first, and the right option usually becomes obvious.

Step 1: decide the outcome

You want...You need...
A sealed slab buyers recognize, registry eligibility, authenticationA mail-in grader: PSA, Beckett (BGS), SGC or CGC
To know a card's condition before deciding whether to send it outA documented grade you can get today
A condition record for a card you plan to keep or sell rawA documented grade you can get today
To grade a whole collection without mailing itA photo-based grade such as DCM

Mail-in graders physically examine, authenticate and encapsulate the card. DCM grades from photos against its own published standard and gives you a report and printable labels; it does not authenticate or encapsulate. Neither replaces the other. What DCM provides and what you supply spells out the difference.

Step 2: compare cost and wait for that outcome

Cheapest tier open at each service, per card, shipping excluded. Turnarounds are the companies' own estimates in business days, not guarantees.

ServiceCheapest open single-card tierPriceEstimated turnaroundNote
CGCEconomy$2090 business daysBulk is $17 on a 25-card minimum, about 150 business days
SGCStandard$5040+ business daysNo minimum
PSAStandard$59.9990 to 100 business daysValue services temporarily paused
Beckett (BGS)Express$79.9515 business daysBase and Standard temporarily paused
DCMSingle credit$2.99 (as low as $0.50)About a minuteNo mailing, no minimum

All figures checked on each company's own site on October 8, 2026: PSA, SGC, CGC, Beckett status and Beckett submission form. The full sourced table is on card grading companies compared.

Step 3: add the costs the table leaves out

  • Shipping both ways. Insured shipping typically adds $15 to $40 each way depending on declared value.
  • Minimums. CGC's $17 bulk rate requires 25 cards.
  • Declared value. Higher-value cards are pushed into more expensive tiers.
  • Time. On the cheapest tiers the card is out of your hands for months. Faster tiers exist at every mail-in grader at higher prices, from CGC Standard at $55 for 10 business days to SGC Expedited from $150 and PSA Super Express at $349.

For DCM, the price is the whole cost: no shipping, no minimum. See which DCM plan fits your collection for pack and membership pricing.

A sensible approach for most collectors

  1. Grade the collection with DCM to document condition and find the strongest cards.
  2. Send the few cards that justify a mail-in fee, and a slab, to the grader you prefer.
  3. Keep or sell the rest with a DCM report and label attached.

DCM grades do not predict another company's grade; they tell you, against a published standard, what the photos show. Cheapest card grading and fastest card grading break the numbers down further.

Figures dated as shown in the table. Prices and turnarounds change often; always confirm on the grader's own site.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best card grading service in 2026?
It depends on the outcome you need. For a sealed, authenticated slab, choose a mail-in grader such as PSA, Beckett, SGC or CGC. For a documented condition grade today without mailing the card, a photo-based service such as DCM is faster and cheaper. Many collectors use both.
What is the cheapest way to get a card graded?
Among mail-in graders checked on October 8, 2026, the cheapest single-card tier was CGC Economy at $20, then SGC Standard at $50 and PSA Standard at $59.99. CGC Bulk is $17 a card but needs 25 cards. DCM grades from photos for $2.99 a card, or as low as $0.50 with Card Lovers Annual, but it does not provide a sealed slab or authentication.
How long does card grading take?
At the cheapest open mail-in tiers, estimated turnarounds run from 15 business days (Beckett Express) to 90 to 100 (PSA Standard), and about 150 on CGC Bulk, plus shipping both ways. DCM returns a grade in about a minute.
Is DCM an alternative to PSA?
For documenting condition, yes. For a sealed PSA slab, authentication or registry eligibility, no. DCM grades from photos against its own standard and does not predict PSA grades.
