Beckett Paused. PSA Is Buried. What Now for Your Everyday Cards?
Value tiers on hold, waits pushing seven months, and fees that cost more than the card
Mail-away grading has become even slower or paused all together...enter DCM for grading.
Two of the biggest names in card grading told collectors to wait this week.
Sports Card Investor and Card Vault by Tom Brady both posted the same headline: Beckett has temporarily paused base and standard grading services, reportedly for about a month. That lands on top of a PSA backlog collectors have been complaining about all year.
If you own a shoebox of $20 to $60 cards, this is the part of the hobby that just got harder.
What collectors are actually saying
The frustration is not coming from analysts. It is coming from the people mailing cards in.

Here are PSA's posted service times from the chart circulating in collector groups. These are business days, so the cheap tiers land somewhere between five and eight months on a calendar.

Notice which tiers got hit hardest. The fast ones still move. The affordable ones are where everything piles up, and those are exactly the tiers everyday collectors use.
Run the math on a $40 card
Say you pull a card worth about $40 raw. Here is the honest version of a mail in submission right now.
You pay the grading fee. Collectors are quoting $79 per card at PSA and $95 per card insured on a Beckett express order. Add shipping both ways, add insurance, add a bubble mailer and a trip to the post office.
Then you wait. Not two weeks. Months. Your card sits in a warehouse across the country while the market moves without you.
Best case, it comes back a 9 and you are close to even. Worst case it comes back an 8, and you paid more in fees than the slab added in value.
That is the trap for low and mid range cards. The grading fee does not scale down to match the card.
Where DCM fits

You can print a real slab label. Modern, Traditional, or the new Heritage designs you can customize with your own colors. Every label carries a QR code that resolves to a public DCM verification page, so a buyer can scan it and see the grade, the sub grades and the photos.

We are not going to pretend otherwise. If you have a vintage rookie, a high dollar chase card, or anything where a PSA 10 population premium drives the price, mail it in. That premium is real and it is not going anywhere.
