Pokémon Card Database

We know your card before we grade it

Most photo-grading tools read one image and guess. DCM Optic™ checks every Pokémon card against our own database first — so the set, card number, rarity, and print variant on your label are verified, not invented.

What database matching actually fixes

Set totals that actually match. A card numbered 127 from a 94-card set is a secret rare, not card 127 of 94. We check the printed total so your label reads #127/094, not a number we made up.

Misread digits get caught. A blurry 7 that scans as a 1 would send a Charizard to the wrong card entirely. If only one card in the set matches the name, we correct the number instead of trusting the photo.

Reprints stay separate. Base Set, Base Set 2, Legendary Collection and the 151 reprints share artwork. Matching on set plus number keeps a 1999 Charizard from being labeled as a modern reprint.

Japanese cards are first-class. Japanese-exclusive promos and set codes are matched against the Japanese database, not force-fitted to the closest English name.

Graded the way Pokémon cards actually fail

Holo scratches, edge whitening on dark borders, and vintage centering are what separate a 9 from a 10 on a Pokémon card. DCM Optic™ inspects each of them at magnification, front and back.

Holofoil surface

Scratches on a holo pattern hide in the glare. Magnified inspection separates real surface damage from the foil texture itself — the single most common reason a Pokémon card is over- or under-graded.

Edge whitening on dark borders

Black-bordered cards — vintage holos, full arts, modern ex and V cards — show every speck of white. Each edge is scored separately so one worn edge does not quietly sink the whole grade.

Vintage centering

1999-era print runs were rarely well centered. Left/right and top/bottom ratios are measured on both faces and reported as numbers, so you can see exactly why a card capped where it did.

What Collectors Are Saying

I graded 30 cards from my binder in an afternoon. Found two worth sending to PSA and saved myself from submitting the other 28.

Mike R.

Pokémon & Sports Collector

The sub-grades tell me exactly why a card missed a 10. That is worth more to me than the number itself.

Anthony M.

Sports Card Enthusiast

Being able to check a card before I buy it at a show has completely changed how I shop.

Fair Questions

Is a DCM grade the same as a PSA grade?+
No, and we do not claim it is. DCM is its own 10-point grade with four sub-grades, and every report includes estimated equivalents on the PSA, BGS, CGC and SGC scales so you know roughly where a card would land. Most collectors use DCM to decide which cards are worth paying to submit.
Does it work on vintage WOTC cards?+
Yes. Base Set through Neo and the WOTC promos are all in our database, and vintage centering and edge wear are exactly what the magnified inspection is tuned for. Vintage cards legitimately grade lower on average — the report shows you the measurements behind the number.
What about Japanese cards?+
Japanese sets have their own database with 5,548 cards across 145 sets, so a Japanese promo is matched against Japanese data rather than guessed at from the closest English name.
Can you grade a card that is already slabbed?+
We can read it, but we will tell you the grade is limited. A card sealed in another company’s case cannot be inspected for surface and edge detail through the plastic, so the report says so rather than quietly guessing.
What if I disagree with my grade?+
Every report shows the sub-grades and the specific defects behind the number, so you can see the reasoning. Photo quality is the most common cause of a surprising grade — retake with even lighting and no glare and grade it again.
